Dear Dad

Sunday, July 6th, 2008

At the age of seventeen, Father’s Day became a mockery to me and my faith in my Heavenly Father took a serious beating. Almost twenty-six years later, I’ve learned not to see Him with eyes handicapped with biological and situational limitations, but with the spiritual eyes that reflect the brand/receipt of His DNA.

With them, I can see that He’s all that AND a bag of chips! (Y’all know I love food.. lol). He’s enabled me to understand that He despises my act(ions) that go against His word, not me. He’s taught me that the measure of forgiveness I receive is in direct correlation to the measure I mete out. He’s enlightened me with the knowledge that forgiveness is a gift I give myself.

The Fight of My Life

Friday, January 11th, 2008

Yesterday I was musing on Fred Hammond’s “You are the Living Word”, “Lord Your Grace”, “No Weapon”… last night (while struggling to come up with a concept to describe an upcoming rally/outreach sponsored by our youth ministry) I heard the first cut on Kirk Franklin’s latest CD, Fight of My Life. If ever there was a title that applied to me… that was it! (no pun intended)

I have listened to it on Youtube at least twelve times already and don’t intend to stop anytime soon. Why? It speaks to me.

God Has Smiled On Me…

Sunday Morning Reflections of the Not-Quite-So-Sick-and-Shut-in:

I was just having a conversation, in which the other party mentioned that I look better than some 30’s. Cool with me. Who doesn’t want to hear flattering things on a Sunday morning (heck any day of the week) when their sinuses are standing up and claiming new land in the name of infection and all that. But specifically I took/take joy in the irony that is involved with having a relationship with God.

Here it is… I am in the worst shape of my life, physically, (yes, I can admit that… lol. That’s the first step to addressing a problem, or, so I’ve been told) yet everywhere I turn folk are telling me how good I look and really… although I disagree… it’s not an argument I want to win… really… LOL

What Are You Thankful For?

Monday, November 12th, 2007

With the fast approach of the celebration of Thanksgiving comes the expected question: what are you thankful for?

Each year my answer varies, but adds up to “my family and the fact that I’m still here!” Why so short you ask? Because really, I’m all about keeping it as monosyllabic as possible in order to do my part to keep the clock down and the food warm; cause invariably, there will always be someone who starts back at the year they were born and brings it forward.

This year, prompted by a thread in one of my groups, I’m putting it out there early and taking the time to elaborate a bit.

Hey Folks,

In true do-it-herselfer mode, I stumbled upon ways and means to create my own bookcovers two days ago and have been madly designing ever since. Love Quest is due for release as of June 21st (right in time to get your summer love jones on).

Topic: Divine Placement

Good morning folks!

It seems as though I’m always apologizing to you all for my neglect, so once again I apologize. Even as I do so, I should really be writing but I just had to share this little snippet.

Ever set a goal, go after it determinedly and when you achieve it almost regret having done so? Sound crazy? Let me elucidate:

The 411

Friday, February 3rd, 2006

Hi Folks,

Sorry for the abandonment of late, but here’s a mini update with what’s been going on with me.

  1. After 6-1/2 years my church met three weeks ago and agreed that last Sunday would be our last worship service. Since the governing body is a separately corporate indentity, that will in no way affect the DTA (Don’t Throw (it) Away) program we recently started in Maxwell High School, targeting the troubled teens. Little did I know when I wrote the piece Endings and New Beginnings, how on target I would be. Although I will relish not having to travel two hours each way from PA to NY every Sunday, I will miss the fellowship of my sisters and brothers.
  2. I’ve been busy revising and rewriting AIJAN, the reasoning you can find here and it will be re-released by March 1st so all subscribers and people on my waiting list, look out for an email from me around that time with a discount code for either a percentage off the list price or FREE shipping.
  3. I’ve ordered my ISBN’s for my publishing press in the making and they should arrive next week. This will facilitate my using my press’ name on my book instead of Lulu’s which screams POD (Print on Demand, which is looked down upon in the literary world. Yeah, yeah, folks always gotta have a reason to hate… LOL)
  4. I’ve also been busy setting up websites/blogs for the publishing press to be, an author site for me, and an online bookstore, so much to do, so little time with which to do it — but ever so much fun! (Here’s a sneak peek at the possibilities to be had from templates and shopping cart software courtesy of my Siteground.com hosting package :) Divine Truth Press(1), Divine Truth Press(2), Read Zone Online Bookstore, and D.S. White, Author(1), D.S. White, Author(2)
  5. I’ve started another blog (yes, another one) in a book pitch/book publishing community which I feel will be great exposure for me and my book, because the topic I’ve chosen to cover is self-publishing for the first time author. And did I mention that although part of a paid community, this blog is FREE? (Yes it is!)
  6. I’ve been sick off and on all week, going to bed at crazy hours: 8 pm, 8:30 p.m and 9:00 p.m. For those of you who know my sleep pattern, you know that’s waaaaaaay early for me.

Anyways… just wanted to let y’all know that I’m still alive and kicking.

Till next time,
Dee

Flashback or “So Glad We Made It!”

Thursday, September 29th, 2005

“I later learned that behind the facade of a perfectly made up face, a sassy mouth, an incredible sense of style, and a quick brain (she was a junior in High School at 15) lay the broken remains of little girl who wanted to be a doctor when she grew up, but was being molested by her much older brother, with whom she lived…”

I was reading a book yesterday as I waited for the bus. The main character, a blonde Georgia peach, had just broken up with her fiancé.

While she was out fundraising, he had been cheating on her with a newly hired co-worker.
